all… It’s finally here! After a few hiccups with my editing software and a long wait, I’m finally sharing my full review and install process using the human hair crochet from Ywigs. 👀

If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know I and Ywigs had a rocky start when they first dropped those human hair boho braids. But listen—everyone deserves a second chance, right? So I gave them one.

Now let’s dive into the tea ☕ and see if they really came through with this crochet install or nah.

First Impressions: It's Giving... Redemption?

Let me just start by saying I had my doubts. But Ywigs might have just come through with this one. The hair I received was kinky curly, about 22 inches, and it came with all the tools I needed to install it—a rat-tail comb, crochet needle, hair clips, and even a beader (which I personally don’t use, but hey—options!).

The hair looked good right out of the pack, and I was ready to get started.

Pro Tip: Water Is Your Best Friend

One major complaint I saw in other YouTube reviews was about how hard it was to separate the hair. Sis, let me put you on: water makes all the difference. Spray it down, and the hair literally separates like butter. You can even add a little leave-in conditioner for extra slip, but honestly, water alone did the trick for me.

💡 Lazy Girl Tip: I didn’t add conditioner to every bundle (don’t judge me lol), and it still separated just fine.

The Install: Middle Part & Illusion Method

I kept it simple with a middle part and only used the illusion method around the part and the perimeter. The rest? Just regular old crochet knots.

Quick tip: Make sure the string on the hair is centered before installing, or it might peek out later (and that ain’t cute). Otherwise, the install process was pretty smooth and beginner-friendly.

It's Thick, fast, and FULL

This hair is very full, y’all. Like full, full. I only used 3 out of the 5 bundles Ywigs sent me, and that was more than enough. The kinky curly texture gives it that volume and body we all love, but be careful not to go overboard. You don’t want it to look too bulky.

🙌🏾 Rule of thumb: Be light with your hands. Less is more with this texture!

A Game-Changer: No More Synthetic Hair for Your Braid Down?

Okay, this one is major—you don’t have to use synthetic braiding hair for your braid-down anymore. I saw someone on IG use sewing string, and let me tell you: I tried it, and I’m obsessed. It’s cheaper, allergy-friendly, and doesn’t irritate your scalp. Perfect for folks who are sensitive to synthetic fibers.

No, I didn’t come up with it—but yes, I’m spreading the gospel.

Let’s Talk Smell: Human Hair Got That “Essence”

Okay, weird but true: human hair smells different than synthetic hair. Not bad—just not like you. My wife always says my synthetic installs smell like me after a few days. But human hair? It holds its own natural scent.

So I used a mousse that smells good (shoutout to real-life aesthetics lol), just to freshen things up and make it feel a little more “me.” Not necessary, but it made a difference.

Conclusion: Ywigs Might Be Back in My Good Graces. 👏🏾

All in all, this human hair crochet install was a win. The hair quality was great, the install was easy, and I didn’t run into many issues—especially once I started spraying it down.

✅ Full but not too bulky
✅ Easy to separate with water
✅ Comes with all the tools you need
✅ Smells fine with a little help
✅ No synthetic hair needed for the braid-down? Yes, please!

FAQs

1. How many bundles do you need for a full install?
You can get away with just 3 bundles for a full head, especially with the kinky curly texture. Any more, and it might get too full.

2. Can you do a twist-out on this crochet hair?
Yes! But I didn’t try it personally—I’ve never had much luck with twist-outs. If that’s your thing, go for it!

3. Does the hair tangle?
Not really. It’s more intertwined than tangled. As long as you spray it down and use a bit of leave-in, it separates pretty easily.

4. Can you use mousse on this hair?
You can, but you don’t need to. I used it because I liked how it smelled, but water and leave-in conditioner work just fine.

5. What’s the alternative to synthetic hair for the braid-down?
Use sewing string! It’s a perfect alternative for folks with allergies or sensitivities. Cheap, effective, and scalp-friendly.
